Women’s Golf preview: The Battle at Rancho Bernardo Inn LIVE SCORING: Fans can follow the Longhorns in action online at http://www.golfstat.com. COURSE: Championship Golf Course at Rancho Bernardo Inn Golf Resort & Spa will be set up to play at par-72, 6,336-yards. PLAY: Tee times will begin at 10 a.m. Central from the first and 10th holes each round. TEXAS LINEUP: Head coach Martha Richards’ lineup is led by freshman Rebecca Lee-Bentham (Scarborough, Ontario) in the No. 1 position. Sophomore Madison Pressel (Boca Raton, Fla.) will compete in the second spot, while junior Nicole Vandermade (Brantford, Ontario) is slated No. 3. Sophomores Katelyn Sepmoree (Tyler, Texas) and Haley Stephens (Greer, S.C.) round out the four and five positions, respectively. Junior Megan Rosenfeld (Plano, Texas) is competing as an individual.
THE FIELD: 17 teams - No. 10 Arizona State, No. 6 Arizona, No. 20 Auburn, No. 9 California, No. 46 Denver, No. 16 Georgia, No. 50 New Mexico, No. 36 Oregon, No. 19 Pepperdine, No. 8 Purdue, No. 43 San Diego State (host), No. 35 TCU, No. 24 TEXAS, No. 22 UC Davis, No. 3 UCLA, No. 49 UNLV and No. 2 USC, plus individuals (96 total players). LAST TIME OUT: Texas freshman Rebecca Lee-Bentham (71-70-75) shot a career-best 54-hole total of even-par 216 to finish in a tie for fourth while leading the Longhorns to a sixth-place finish at the Bruin Wave Invitational (Feb. 28 – March 5). Overall, Texas shot a combined 35-over 899 (303-298-298) to take sixth place in the 15-team field. Lee-Bentham paced the Longhorns and earned her first career top-five finish. A stellar first 36 holes of 3-under 144 put her into a tie for the lead headed into Wednesday’s finale at the Robinson Ranch Club. Lee-Bentham maintained her hot start on day three until a triple-bogey on the 16th hole dropped her to 3-over for the round and even par to finish the tournament (71-70-75). Lee-Bentham’s second-round 2-under 70 included three birdies and only one bogey. |
