Women's Golf ties for fifth at Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational
AUSTIN, Texas -- UT sophomore Kristin Walla shot a three-over 75 to lead Texas on the final day of the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational Sunday at the par 72, 6,290-yard University of Texas Golf Club. The Longhorns, who held an eight-stroke lead after 36 holes, slipped to a tie for fifth place after shooting a 30-over 318 on the day. Texas finished at 61-over par for the tournament to tie for fifth with SMU. Purdue shot four-over in the final round to win the event at 43-over par. The Boilermakers' Maria Hernandez took medalist honors at one-over par. Walla (Aspen, Colo.) finished strong in the third round, taking five strokes off of her second round to shoot a three-over 75 to end the tournament in 19th place at 16-over par. Junior Kelley Louth (Victoria, Texas), who held a seven-stroke lead after 36 holes, shot an 81 in the final round to end the event in fourth place at five-over par. Freshman Alex Richards (Austin, Texas) ended the tournament with an 81 in the final round to the end the event in a tie for 26th place at 19-over par. Freshman Shannon Fish (Spring, Texas) shot an 83 in the final round to end the tournament in a tie for 42nd place at 23-over par. Sophomore Caney Hines (San Antonio, Texas) improved in the final round, shooting a nine-over 81 to finish in 85th place at 42-over par. Freshman Brittany Tomerlin (San Angelo, Texas) ended the event in a tie for 59th place at 28-over par. Redshirt freshman Erica Doody (Houston, Texas) led the Texas "B" team - which out-shot the "A" team on the final day finished in 12th place at 89-over par - by finishing in a tie for 20th place at 17-over par. Freshman Arliss Hoy (San Antonio, Texas) carded a six-over 78 to end the tournament in a tie for 31st place at 21-over par. Senior Ashley Prust (Englewood, Colo.) shaved five strokes off of her second round with a three-over 75. She finished the tournament in a tie for 48th place at 25-over par. Freshman Raelyn Smith (Odessa, Texas) sliced six strokes off of her second round, carding a seven-over 79 to finish in a tie for 54th place at 26-over par. Junior Brittany Givilancz (Weslaco, Texas), playing as an individual, finished in 86th place at 53-over par. Texas returns to action on Sunday, April 8 at the Indiana Invitational.
