Louth, Women's Golf extend leads at Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational
AUSTIN, Texas -- UT junior Kelley Louth shot a one-under 71 for her second consecutive round under par to open up a seven-stroke lead Saturday at the 14-team Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational at the par 72, 6,290-yard University of Texas Golf Club. Texas extended its lead from three strokes after the opening round to eight strokes after 36 holes, as UT sits at 31-over par. UT shot the best team round for a second consecutive day with a 16-over par after shooting 15-over as a team on Friday. Arkansas sits in second place at 39-over par. Louth (Victoria, Texas) continued to play exceptional golf in the second round, adding three birdies to finish at one-under par. Coupled with her three-under-par showing in the opening round, Louth leads the field at four-under par after extending her lead from one stroke to seven. Her nearest competitor is Baylor's Hannah Burke at three-over par. Freshman Alex Richards (Austin, Texas) ended the second round in a tie for 18th place after shooting a six-over 78, ending the day at 10-over for the tournament. Freshman Shannon Fish (Spring, Texas) lowered her first round by six strokes, carding a three-over 75 to finish the day at 12-over par and in a tie for 25th place. Sophomore Kristin Walla (Aspen, Colo.) stroked an eight-over 80 in the second round to end the day in a tie for 28th place at 13-over par. Sophomore Caney Hines (San Antonio, Texas) rebounded from a 94 on Friday to shoot an 83 in Saturday's second round. She sits in 85th place at 33-over par. Freshman Brittany Tomerlin (San Angelo, Texas), playing as an individual alongside the Texas "A" team, stroked a 13-over 85 and sits in a tie for 64th place at 20-over par. Redshirt freshman Erica Doody (Houston, Texas) led the Texas "B" team with her second four-over 76 in as many days to end the second round at eight-over par in a tie for 12th place. Freshman Arliss Hoy improved dramatically from the first round, carding a four-over 76 to finish the first two rounds at 15-over par and in a tie for 37th place. Freshman Raelyn Smith (Odessa, Texas) shot a 13-over 85 to finish the opening two rounds at 19-over par and in a tie for 57th place. Senior Ashley Prust (Englewood, Colo.) sliced six strokes off of her first round, carding an eight-over 80 in the second round to end the day at 22-over for the tournament and in a tie for 72nd place. Junior Brittany Givilancz (Weslaco, Texas) took nine strokes off of her first round and now sits in 86th place at 39-over par.
