Women's Golf tied for 14th after first round of Betsy Rawls

AUSTIN, Texas -- Senior Devan Andersen (Guadalajara, Mexico) shot a first round score of six-over par 78 to sit in a tie for 28th place and help The University of Texas to tie for 14th after the first day of the 33rd annual Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational Friday in Austin.

Texas sits in a two-way tie for 14th with Minnesota after posting identical first round scores of 33-over par 321. Texas A&M holds the lead after the initial round with a score of 10-over par 298. Top-ranked Duke, who was paired with Texas and No. 8 Purdue today, finished in second with 14-over par score of 302. TCU is in third with a 15-over par 303.

Andersen was the top finisher for Texas and opened with nines of 39 and 39 for a first card total of 78. Junior Julia Best (Bulverde, Texas) and sophomore Kelley Louth (Victoria, Texas) are both close behind, each with a first round score of seven-over par 79. Both are currently tied for 36th place.

Freshmen Caney Hines (San Antonio, Texas) and Kristin Walla (Aspen, Colo.) rounded out the Longhorns' five team members. Hines finished with a score of 13-over par 85 and in a tie for 76th place while Walla shot a first round of 15-over par 87 for 81st place.

Also competing today as individuals were senior Lauran Driver (Houston, Texas), junior Ashley Prust (Englewood, Colo.) and sophomore Brittany Givilancz (Weslaco, Texas). Driver posted a six-over par score of 78 to tie for 28th in her first action of the season, Prust opened with a eight-over par 80 to tie for 44th and Givilancz shot 11-over par 83 to tied for 68th-place.

Texas will return to the links for the second round of 18 holes, starting at 8 a.m. and golfers going off holes No. 1 and No. 10.
