Louth, Women's Golf lead Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational
AUSTIN, Texas -- UT junior Kelley Louth shot a three-under 69 to lead all players Friday after the opening round of the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational at the par 72, 6,290-yard University of Texas Golf Club. Texas leads the 14-team event after carding a 15-over 303 on the day. Louth (Victoria, Texas), powered by three birdies, shot a 35 on the front nine before adding three more birdies on the back nine to end the day with a three-under 69. Freshman Alex Richards (Austin, Texas) added a four-over 76 to end the day in a tie for 13th place. Sophomore Kristin Walla (Aspen, Colo.) carded a five-over 77 to tie for 18th place, and freshman Shannon Fish (Spring, Texas) shot a nine-over 81 to end the first round in a tie for 46th place. Sophomore Caney Hines (San Antonio, Texas) struggled on day one, shooting a 22-over 94. Texas also entered a "B" team in its lone home tournament of the year, and the foursome totaled a 35-over 323, which leads one team - Minnesota - in the Betsy Rawls field. Redshirt freshman Erica Doody (Houston, Texas) led the "B" squad with a four-over 76 to end the opening round in a tie for 13th place. Freshman Raelyn Smith (Odessa, Texas) carded a six-over 78 to tie for 24th after the opening round. Freshman Arliss Hoy (San Antonio, Texas) totaled an 11-over 83 to end the opening round in a tie for 68th place, and senior Ashley Prust (Englewood, Colo.) shot a 14-over 86 to close the day in a tie for 80th place.
