AUSTIN, Texas -- The University Texas women's golf team is set to host the 33rd Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational Friday, March 17-Sunday, March 19 at The University of Texas Golf Club in Austin.
This annual event, now in its 33rd year, has evolved into one of the strongest tournaments of the year. The tournament champions' list reads like a "who's who" of women's golf -- Nancy Lopez, Beth Daniel, Jody Rosenthal, Val Skinner, Michiko Hattori and Annika Sorenstam are a few of the champions who have helped make the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational a marquee event.
It was in March of 1974 that then-Texas head coach Pat Weis had the foresight to establish what has become a tradition in college golf every spring. Originally called the "Texas Invitational," it was renamed in 1977 to honor Betsy Rawls, a longtime friend of Weis.
This year the field will consist of Baylor, Duke, Iowa State, Kansas, Minnesota, New Mexico State, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Purdue, SMU, TCU, TEXAS, Texas A&M and Tulsa.
