Women's Golf team finishes 11th at Guadalajara Invitational

GUADALAJARA, Mexico -- The University of Texas women's golf team finished 11th at the 2006 Guadalajara Invitational in Guadalajara, Mexico on Wednesday, led by hometown Longhorn and senior Devan Andersen (Guadalajara , Mexico).

Andersen shot a team-low, six-over par 78 in the final round of the tournament to finish with a combined score of 17-over par 233. She shot rounds of 80, 75 and 78 on the par 72 course in her hometown to tie for 38th-place.

The Longhorns had a final team score of 83-over par 947 after shooting a final-round combined score of 320. UCLA finished in first-place with a score of even par 864. Southern California was in a close second and seven strokes off the pace with 871, Duke was third with a total score of 10-over par 874, and Arizona State and Georgia tied for fourth-place with identical 18-over par 882s.

Junior Julia Best ( Bulverde, Texas) shot a final round eight-over par 80 to finish with a total score of 20-over par 236 to take sole ownership of 46th-place.

Freshman Caney Hines ( San Antonio, Texas) tied for 47 th-place with a three round total of 21-over par 237. She shot an 11-over par 83 in the final round of the Invitational after rounds of 76 and 78.

Sophomore Kelley Louth ( Victoria, Texas) and freshman Kristin Walla ( Aspen, Colo.) rounded out the Longhorn squad at the invite. Louth had a three-day total of 31-over par 247 to finish in 56th-place and Walla finished in 57th-place after posting a three-day total of 37-over par 253.

The team will return home to Austin to host the 33rd Betsy Rawls Invitational on March 17-19 at The University of Texas Golf Club.
