SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico -- The 16th-ranked Texas women's golf team shot a 315 (+27) in the final round of the Lady Puerto Rico Classic (Dorado del Mar: Par 72, 6,033 yards) and finished the tournament in 13th place at 88-over-par (327-310-315=952). Freshman Kelley Louth (Victoria, Texas) was the top Longhorn finisher at eight-over-par, which was good enough to tie her for sixth place. Auburn took first place with a combined total of 888 (+24), while the Tigers' Diana Ramage fired a final round 69 (-3) to take medalist honors at even par.
"This was a frustrating tournament for us," said Texas head coach Susan Watkins. "We're going to have to go back to the drawing board. On a positive note, Kelley Louth had a great tournament, so we will try and build off of her momentum as we head towards the Betsy Rawls."
Louth carded a two-over-par 74 in the final round to go with a pair of 75s to finish the tournament at 224 (+8). Senior Perry Swenson (Charlotte, N.C.) finished up her tournament with a five-over-par 77 to finish in a tie for 45th place at 21-over-par (237).
Sophomore Julia Best (Bulverde, Texas) shot her second straight 80 to tie for 58th place at 29-over-par (245), while senior Mariana Salazar (Torreon, Mexico) finished tied for 61st place at 30-over-par (246).
Freshman Jordan Craig placed 71st with a three round total of 252 (+36) and sophomore Ashley Prust (Englewood, Colo.), playing as an individual, finished the tournament in a tie for 65th at 31-over-par (247).
Next up, the Longhorns will prepare for the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational, which begins on Friday, March 11. It will be the first tournament played at the UT Golf Club.
