SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico -- The 16th-ranked Texas women's golf team shot a 310 (+22) in the second round of the Lady Puerto Rico Classic (Dorado del Mar: Par 72, 6,033 yards) and remains in 13th place with a total of 637 (+61). The Longhorns improved by 17 strokes from their first round score but remain 41 strokes behind Auburn, who is in the lead at 596 (+20). Florida's Tiffany Chudy sits atop the individual leaderboard at two-over-par (146).
"We played better today, but we still have to put five solid scores on the board," said Texas head coach Susan Watkins. "Perry (Swenson) did a better job today and Kelley (Louth) continues to be solid, but we need some other players to step up."
Freshman Kelley Louth (Victoria, Texas) carded her second-straight 75 and sits in a tie for eighth place at six-over-par (75-75=150). Senior Perry Swenson (Charlotte, N.C.) bounced back from an opening-round 85 to shoot a three-over-par 75 leaving her in a tie for 47th place.
Senior Mariana Salazar (Torreon, Mexico) shot an 80 on Tuesday and is tied for 52nd place at 18-over-par (82-80=162). Sophomore Julia Best (Bulverde, Texas) improved by five strokes, shooting an eight-over-par 80. She is now tied for 59th place at 21-over-par (85-80=165).
Freshman Jordan Craig (Connellsville, Pa.) posted a 10-over-par 82 in the second round tying her for 70th place at 24-over-par. Sophomore Ashley Prust (Englewood, Colo.), playing as an individual, is tied for 54th place at 20-over-par after an eight-over-par 80 on Tuesday.
The Longhorns will return to the course on Wednesday, Feb. 23 for final-round action.
