No. 16 Women's Golf in 13th after first round of Lady Puerto Rico Classic

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico -- The University of Texas women's golf team combined to shoot a 39-over-par 327 in the first round of the Lady Puerto Rico Classic (Dorado Del Mar: Par 72, 6,000 yard) and sits in 13th place. Freshman Kelley Louth (Victoria, Texas) had the best round of the day for the Longhorns, a three-over-par 75, and is tied for eighth. Auburn is the leader after shooting an opening-round 299 (+11), while California's Sofie Andersson is the individual leader at one-under-par.

"I'm disappointed because we were really focused on getting off to a good start," said Texas head coach Susan Watkins. "It was really windy today, but, with our experience, we should have done a better job today. I am very proud of the way Kelley Louth played. She had a great round."

Louth opened with a 38 on the front nine and came back to shoot a 37 on the back nine to give her a total of 75 on the day. Senior Mariana Salazar (Torreon, Mexico) carded a 10-over-par 82 and tied for 52nd heading into the second round.

Senior Perry Swenson (Charlotte, N.C.) and sophomore Julia Best (Bulverde, Texas) are tied for 68th place at 13-over-par (85), while freshman Jordan Craig (Connellsville, Pa.) shot a 14-over-par 86 and sits alone in 71st place.

Sophomore Ashley Prust (Englewood, Colo.), playing as an individual, carded a nine-over-par 81 and is tied for 46th place.

The Longhorns will return to the course on Tuesday, Feb. 22 for second round action.
