Women's Golf in second place after first round of Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational

AUSTIN, Texas -- The Texas Women's Golf team notched four even-par rounds to finish the first day of the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational at The University of Texas Golf Club in second place. The Longhorns (288, E) trail first-round leader Florida (285, -3) by three strokes. Juniors Madison Pressel (37-35), Desiree Dubreuil (33-39) and Haley Stephens (34-38) along with senior Nicole Vandermade (37-35) are tied for 12th place at even 72. Pressel and Vandermade each birdied the 18th hole to help close the gap with first-place Florida. As a team, Texas finished the front nine at 3-under, as Dubreuil strung together three straight birdies on the fifth, sixth and seventh holes and Stephens was 2-under after carding three birdies and a lone bogey. Pressel and Vandermade were each +1 through nine. The Longhorns picked up three strokes on the back with nine bogeys and six birdies, including the pair on 18. Junior Katelyn Sepmoree (40-37) rounds out the Texas squad at 5-over 77 and is tied for 50th place. Sophomore Alyssa Morgan (36-43) and senior Megan Rosenfeld (40-40) are tied for 61st and 67th places, respectively, while competing as individuals. Florida's Evan Jensen holds the individual lead at 4-under 68. Kent State's Mercedes Geronimo (69) is one stroke back, and five players are tied for third place at 2-under 70. The Longhorns begin Tuesday's action at 9:45 a.m. Central on the first tee alongside Florida and third-place Oklahoma State (290, +2). First-round team standings
