Pressel leads Women's Golf in first-round action at Stanford Intercollegiate
Oct. 19, 2012
PALO ALTO, Calif. -- Senior Madison Pressel carded a 4-over-par 75 in the opening round of the Stanford Intercollegiate hosted by Condoleezza Rice to lead the Texas Women’s Golf team Friday at Stanford Golf Course.
Pressel’s scorecard (36-39) included a pair of birdies on the 12th and 15th holes – her third and sixth of the day – and seven bogeys. She was the only Longhorn to play the course’s difficult back nine stretch at even-par 36. Pressel is tied for 38th place entering Saturday’s second round.
As a team, the Longhorns played their first nine holes at 12-over compared to a collective team score of +15 on the front nine, which was the team’s finishing half of the course.
Southern California leads the 17-team field at 2-over 286. Oregon State (287) and Vanderbilt (288) are in second and third places, respectively, following a picturesque day in Palo Alto.
