Vandermade leads Women's Golf with 3-under 68 in first-round action at Stanford Intercollegiate

Stanford, Calif. -- Senior Nicole Vandermade led the Texas Women's Golf team with an opening round 3-under-par 68 at the Stanford Intercollegiate on Friday. As a team, the Longhorns are tied for ninth place at 3-over 287.
Vandermade's blemish-free scorecard on the 6,148-yard Stanford Golf Course included three-straight birdies on the fifth, sixth and seventh holes - her 14th, 15th and 16th of the day. She trails first-round leader Marina Alex (65) of Vanderbilt by three strokes.
Junior Madison Pressel finished two strokes behind Vandermade at 1-under 70 and is tied for 13th place. Juniors Haley Stephens (74) and Desiree Dubreuil (75) are tied for 57th and 67th places, respectively. Freshman Bertine Strauss rounds out the UT squad at 5-over 76 and is tied for 73rd.
Junior Katelyn Sepmoree finished the day at 1-over 72 and is tied for 34th while competing as an individual.
UCLA and Washington are knotted atop the leaderboard at 7-under 277 and Vanderbilt is in third place at 281.
The Longhorns begin Saturday's second round at 10:30 a.m. Central on the first tee alongside Arizona State and San Diego State.
