SKOKIE, Ill. -- University of Texas freshman Nicole Vandermade (78-74=152, +8) fired a second-round 2-over-par 74 in the Windy City Collegiate Classic to finish tied for 22nd after 36 holes, and senior Caney Hines (81-72=153, +9) sits one stroke behind Vandermade in 27th place. As a team, the Longhorns (308-303=611, +35) are sixth on the leaderboard after two rounds of action at the Evanston Golf Club.

Vandermade, who notched a tie for fourth place in her collegiate debut last month, overcame a rocky start in the second round where she found herself at 4-over through five holes as the result of a pair of bogeys and a double. The Brantford, Ontario, native found her first subpar of the round on the eighth hole to make the turn at 3-under, and she played even golf through the following nine holes before finishing the round with a final birdie to jump from a first-round tie for 33rd to a tie for 22nd place after 36 holes with a second-round 2-over 74.

Hines also found her rhythm in the afternoon round, as she bounced back from an opening 9-over 81 to produce the Longhorns' low round of the day -- even par. After making an eagle on the third hole of the par-72, 6,320-yard Evanston Golf Club, Hines doubled the par-3 seventh hole to turn at even. She then went bogey-birdie-bogey on the first three holes of the back nine to sit at 1-over, but two additional birdies on the 15th and 17th holes put her at 1-under through 17 holes before an ensuing bogey on the last hole dropped her back to even.

Junior Shannon Fish (76-79=155, +11) and senior Kristin Walla (77-78=155) are tied for 31st at 11-over, while senior Kelley Louth (77-80=157, +13) rounds out the squad at 13-over and in 39th place.

Purdue's Junthima Gulyanamitta (69-69=138, -6) carded back-to-back rounds of 69 to top the leaderboard at 6-under, while Oklahoma's Ellen Mueller (71-72=143, -1) sits five strokes behind in second place. Purdue's Maria Hernandez (77-67=144, E) rounds out the top-three competitors.

In the team standings, Purdue (301-290=591, +15) holds an 8-stroke advantage over Michigan (300-299=599, +23), while Oklahoma (301-301=602, +26) is in third place after two rounds at 602.

The finale of the 54-hole event will begin Tuesday morning at 8 a.m. Central.

POST-ROUND QUOTES
HEAD COACH Martha Richards
On the team's overall performance: Overall, I saw a lot of things that excited me today and a lot of things that we still need to work on. I think we're still looking to put together a solid round, because I don't feel like we've had a round where everything and everyone has clicked.

This is a challenging course. It's a Donald Ross-designed course where strategy and club selection are very important, but this wind makes you rethink both on plenty of occasions.

On senior Caney Hines' performance: Caney's comeback in the second round was exciting for all of us. When we play 36 holes, it's difficult to stay focused and mentally tough, but she displayed both of those. Her eagle on the third hole gave her quite a bit of momentum, and it came from a 25-foot putt off the fringe. She still has a few holes that are keeping her from putting together a solid round, and if she can eliminate those, then she'll be in good shape.
