Women's Golf takes first-round lead at Mason Rudolph Championship
Sept. 21, 2012
FRANKLIN, Tenn. -- Led by a trio of 1-over-par scorecards, the Texas Women’s Golf team claimed the first-round lead at the season opening Mason Rudolph Championship with a combined score of 6-over 294. Seniors Katelyn Sepmoree and Desiree Dubreuil and freshman Tezira Abe guided the Longhorns to a four-shot lead over second-place Arizona (298, +10) after Friday’s first day of play at Legends Golf Club. Sepmoree set the bar as Texas’ first player to hit the links in the No. 5 position off the 10th tee. Her first nine holes included a birdie at No. 12, bogey at No. 15 and seven pars to turn at even. On the front side of Legends, Sepmoree double bogeyed the second hole before shaving a final stroke off her scorecard with a second birdie on seven. Abe’s collegiate debut as the No. 3 player in Texas’ lineup was capped by her first and only birdie on the finishing hole (No. 9) to offset a pair of bogeys on Nos. 16 and 1. Dubreuil’s first-round scorecard included two birdies (11, 5) and three bogeys (16, 4, 8). Abe, Dubreuil and Sepmoree are tied for eighth place and trail three players tied for first place by only two strokes. Freshman Taylor Kim contributed a 3-over 75 in her first round of collegiate golf and is tied for 18th place. Senior Haley Stephens rounds out the Texas contingent in a tie for 37th at 5-over 77. Senior Madison Pressel (T-18, +3) and freshman Natalie Karcher (T-37, +5) are competing as individuals this week.
