Women's Golf places eighth at Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational
Sept. 20, 2008 ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- University of Texas freshman Nicole Vandermade recorded a fourth-place finish at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational to lead the Longhorns to an eighth-place effort at their first event of the 2008-09 season. Vandermade was one of six golfers to finish under par with her three-round total of two-under-par 217 (72-72-73) and her top-five effort was the fifth by a Longhorn golfer under the direction second-year mentor Martha Richards. Junior Shannon Fish's 54-hole score of nine-over-par 228 was good for 30th place while senior Kristin Walla collected a 11-over-par 230 to tie for 35th. Senior Kelley Louth and junior Brittany Tomerlin both carded a 15-over-par 234 to finish tied for 55th. Tomerlin, who competed as an individual, fired her lowest round of the event over the final 18 holes (74, +1) to move her up nine spots on the individual leaderboard. Senior Caney Hines rounded out the Longhorn scorecard, finishing tied for 68th with a 19-over-par 238. Host New Mexico captured the team title (872, -4) followed by Pepperdine (876, E), UNLV (889, +13), UC Davis (894, +18) and Colorado State (898, +22).
