Dubreuil leads Women's Golf in opening round at The Battle at Rancho Bernardo Inn

SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- Junior Desiree Dubreuil and freshman Bertine Strauss led the Texas Women’s Golf team in the first round of The Battle at Rancho Bernardo Inn Golf on Monday with rounds of 2-over and 4-over-par, respectively. Dubreuil is tied for 16th place after 18 holes while Strauss found herself tied for 27th. Texas is in 11th place overall with a combined score of 308 (+20). Dubreuil recovered from an early double bogey to make birdies on her seventh, ninth and 10th holes. She gave back all three strokes with a double on 16 and a bogey on 18. Dubreuil trails the first-round individual leader by five strokes. Despite recording seven bogeys and eight pars, Strauss managed a respectable 4-over due to three birdies on holes three, nine and 18. She is currently seven strokes off the lead. Juniors Haley Stephens and Madison Pressel also contributed to Texas’ first round score with opening rounds of 6-over and 8-over. Stephens recorded pars on 13 of her 18 holes. The junior finds herself tied for 48th and 9 strokes off the lead. Pressel’s round was highlighted by a birdie on the difficult par-3 13th and is 11 strokes back of the leader. Senior Nicole Vandermade finished the day at +11. Tulane holds the first-round lead in both the team and individual categories. Tulane carded an opening-round 293 (+5) and Maribel Lopez Porras shot a 3-under 69 on the day. The Battle at Rancho Bernardo will continue Tuesday morning with second round play kicking off at 9:30 a.m. Central on the first and 10th tees.
