Women's Golf finishes fourth in spring debut at Northrop Grumman

PALOS VERDES, Calif. -- The Texas Women’s Golf team opened the spring season with a fourth-place finish at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge Wednesday afternoon. The Longhorns (299-290-301) carded a 54-hole score of 38-over-par 890 and finished ahead of three top-10 opponents at Palos Verdes Golf Club. Seniors Madison Pressel and Desiree Dubreuil led Texas with a pair of top-15 finishes. Pressel (75-69-73) notched a season-best fourth-place finish at 4-over 217, and senior Desiree Dubreuil (74-75-72=221) finished four strokes back and tied for 13th. Dubreuil fired Texas’ low final-round score with a 1-over 72. After bogeys on four, eight and nine, Dubreuil rolled in four birdies on the back nine at Nos. 12, 15, 16 and 18 that offset a double bogey on the 14th hole. Through 54 holes, Dubreuil recorded a team-high 11 birdies. Pressel’s final-round scorecard included two birdies on Nos. 12 and 17 and four bogeys (Nos. 1, 4, 13, 16). Senior Haley Stephens (76-76-76=227) and sophomore Bertine Strauss (77-71-80=228) finished 34th and 37th, respectively. Senior Katelyn Sepmoree (74-77-85=236) rounded out the Longhorns in a tie for 60th place. UCLA (288-291-291=870) overcame 36-hole leader Southern California (298-280-301=879) for the team title. Duke (290-295-296=881) finished nine strokes ahead of Texas for third place.
