SORRENTO, Fla. -- Texas sophomore Haley Stephens fired an opening-round 3-under-par 69 on the RedTail Golf Club to finish the day tied for fourth place in the UCF Challenge. As a team, the Longhorns are in sixth place at 2-over 290 in their spring debut.

Stephens was one of just 13 players in the 17-team field to card a subpar round on Sunday after competition was delayed for one hour due to early-morning frost in the central Florida area. She led UT with a team-high six birdies and three bogeys. Stephens was 4-under through 17 holes before finishing her round with a bogey on the 18th hole to result in the 3-under scorecard. She leads Texas with a 71.6 first-round scoring average and today’s 69 marked the best round of Stephens’ sophomore season.

Sophomores Katelyn Sepmoree and Madison Pressel are tied for 14th-place at even-par 72. Junior Nicole Vandermade is at 5-over 77 and tied for 68th place while freshman Rebecca Lee-Bentham rounded out UT’s team tied for 85th place at 81 (+9).

Junior Megan Rosenfeld is competing as an individual this week and her 3-over 75 is tied for 45th place.

The Longhorns are six strokes behind first-round leader Tulane (284, -4). Coastal Carolina is in second place at 3-under 285 and host UCF stands third at 286 (-2).

Monday’s second round is set to begin at 7:30 a.m. Central in a shotgun start off of all 18 tee boxes. Texas will play alongside fourth-place Kentucky (287, -1) and fifth-place Minnesota (288, E).
