Sepmoree and Dubreuil lead Women's Golf in first-round action at Northrop Grumman
Feb. 11, 2013
PALOS VERDES, Calif. -- Seniors Katelyn Sepmoree and Desiree Dubreuil led the Texas Women's Golf team in its spring debut at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge with a pair of opening-round 74s (+3) to tie for 19th place on the individual leaderboard. The Longhorns finished the day in fifth place after carding a team score of 15-over 299 on the par-71, 6,017-yard Palos Verdes Golf Club. Competing in Texas' No. 2 position, Sepmoree began with four straight pars before a double bogey on the par-5 seventh hole cost her two strokes. After three more pars, Sepmoree found her first of two birdies on the ninth hole and made the turn at +1. She double bogeyed No. 10, a par 4, and followed with her second birdie on the next hole. She made five more pars and was 2-over thru 16 holes before a bogey-par finish resulted in her +3 scorecard. Dubreuil rebounded from a +5 front nine to also finish at 3-over. A lone birdie at No. 4 was not enough to offset four bogeys on Nos. 3, 5, 6 and 9 and a double on the seventh hole. She found her stride on the back nine, where her scorecard included seven pars and a pair of subpars on Nos. 12 and 18. Senior Madison Pressel finished one stroke behind her teammates and is tied for 30th at 4-over 75. Senior Haley Stephens finished the day at 5-over 76 and tied for 35th, while sophomore Bertine Strauss rounded out the Longhorns in a tie for 43rd at 6-over 77. UCLA holds a two-stroke lead in the 16-team field with a 4-over 288. Duke and Florida are knotted in second place at 6-over 290.
