Dec. 29, 2012
SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- Freshman middle blocker Sara Hattis, a member of the 2012 NCAA Champion Texas Volleyball team, will immediately join the Women's Basketball roster for the remainder of the season, head coach Karen Aston announced Saturday. Following the 2012-13 season, Hattis will rejoin Volleyball head coach Jerritt Elliott's squad to prepare for the Longhorns' title defense. Hattis came to the Forty Acres as a highly touted two-sport athlete at Cleveland HS in Rio Rancho, N. M. The 6-4 forward was ranked among the top 100 hoops products nationally before deciding to play volleyball at UT. On the hardwood, Hattis earned all-state first team honors in her senior season and all-metro first team recognition in her junior and senior seasons. She was named the New Mexico Player of the Year for volleyball in her senior season, and earned all-state and all-metro first team volleyball honors in her junior and senior seasons. Hattis also earned Under Armour All-America Honorable Mention honors for volleyball as a senior. In addition to her talents on both courts, Hattis competed on the track and field team as a junior and senior. Her track team won the state title in her senior season, and Hattis placed second in the high jump at the state championship as a senior and third as a junior. Hattis was named Cleveland High's Female Athlete of the Year following her senior seasons. "My last game of basketball was my senior year of high school. I finished my senior basketball season because I didn't want to completely drop it (when I chose to play volleyball collegiately). I played basketball my whole life, and I still love the game. It was a matter of the team and the school for me. I fell in love with Texas. I love volleyball and basketball the same, and I'm very excited to combine my two loves at the best college in the country," Hattis said. Hattis' 2012 Texas Volleyball Results
