Women's Basketball postcard from Rutgers: Nina Norman

During the Longhorns women's basketball trip to Rutgers and New York City (Dec. 28-30), several of the Texas players and coaches will be writing "Postcards from the Road," chronicling the three-day trip. First up: senior guard Nina Norman.

Hey everyone!

We all hope everyone is enjoying the holidays -- and that you got everything you wanted for Christmas!

Right now, we are in New Jersey, getting ready to play Rutgers, which is ranked ninth, tomorrow night (6 p.m. Central). My top two priorities right now are to come back to Austin with a win and to buy a gift for the person I drew for our team Secret Santa party. We are going to do our Secret Santa party after Christmas, because of our travels.

If any of my teammates or coaches are reading this, please pass the word to whomever drew my name that I would LOVE a movie entertainment gift card to any of the theatres in Austin! So, please spread the word!

We came back to Austin for practice on December 26th, and have spent the last few days running off all the good food we ate at home! For me, I had some really good greens and had two Christmas dinners -- one with my family and another at my friends' house. While I was home for a few days, I got to see my sister family, and spent time with my sister Niki and my little nephew Javon. I also hung out with one of my very best friends -- Lindsey Harding -- who is the starting point guard for Duke. She and I have been friends for a long, long time. Seeing my sister and my nephew and Lindsey for extended times were the best things about my Christmas.

It was really good to get back on the court. We have had some good practices to start the next part of our season. We did not start sluggish, and that's a good thing, considering that we have to play Rutgers tomorrow, then start Big 12 (play) against Kansas, who is undefeated, and then go and play at Baylor next week.

Right now, we are on the bus after practice. We are going back to the hotel, eating lunch, and then going into New York City for some sightseeing and shopping, a show and then dinner. I am really excited to be here. This is my second time in New York City. The first time was for the McDonald's All-America Game my senior year in high school. I know it's raining and cloudy out, but we will shop in the rain, snow, cold -- we don't care about the weather when it's time to shop!

We'll come back early tonight to rest up for tomorrow's game at Rutgers. We watched a lot of film on them, and I know how hard and intense they play. They beat us at our place last year, which was the first time we had lost a home game in about three years. That really hurt. Rutgers has All-American, All-World guard Cappie Pondexter. Essence Carson, another really good guard, can shoot, and she hit a big three against us last year. And then there's Matee (Ajavon), who is an incredible player. She was one of the best freshmen in the country last year, and none of us underestimate what she can do on the court.

So, make sure you watch us on TV tomorrow night (CSTV) or catch us on the radio or internet!

One of my other teammates will be writing next, after our trip to New York City. Until then...

Hook 'Em!
Nina
