Postcard from Miami: Kristen Nash

Dec. 28, 2009

Hey Longhorn fans,

Well, here we are after our first game in the Wyndham Miami Holiday Tournament. We beat Central Michigan (94-83) earlier this afternoon, but before we talk about that, let’s catch up on the past week for Texas Women’s Basketball.

We had our last practice in Austin on Monday, Dec. 21. After that, my sister Kathleen and I went home to Plano where we relaxed, went to a few movies, and ate too much Mexican food. On Christmas Eve, we opened presents with our family after attending Christmas Eve service together. Christmas is my favorite holiday because it’s the one holiday every year that I am home with my family. Texas Women’s Basketball is my family in Austin, but it means so much to me to go home for the holiday and see my parents and brother.

Kathleen and I returned to Austin on Christmas Day to check on our kitten, Bella, and begin to pack for this tournament. When we left our apartment to meet everyone on campus on the 26th, Bella ran out of the apartment with us – we think she wanted to make the trip to Miami, too! Unfortunately, we had to say goodbye to her for a few more days.

When we arrived in Miami on Saturday, the first thing we did was practice. It was a good practice for our first time together in five days. We began to prepare for Central Michigan, and after about 90 minutes, we called it quits for the night.

Following practice, Kathleen and I had dinner with Erika at The Cheesecake Factory across the street from our hotel. It was great to catch up with our teammate after a few days apart. On Sunday, we had another practice in the afternoon, and after that, we went shopping at a nearby mall and saw the movie “Brothers” together.

That sums up the last few days from sunny Miami. Tomorrow, we’ll take on the tournament host in our final game before returning to Austin for a three-game homestand. Until then, Happy New Year and we’ll see everyone in 2010!

Hook’em,
Kristen Nash
