IRVING, Texas -- University of Texas freshman Yvonne Anderson was named the Phillips 66 Big 12 Conference Co-Freshman of the Week by a media voting panel for games Dec. 15-21, the league announced on Monday. It was the first career honor for Anderson and the first weekly conference award for the Longhorns this season.
Anderson (Columbia, Mo.) tallied eight points (2-of-3 FG, 4-of-4 FT), three rebounds, an assist and a steal in Texas' 81-71 win over No. 21 Arizona State on Dec. 18. She was one of four Longhorns to record a perfect performance from the free-throw line, hitting all four of her attempts.
Anderson is Texas' leading scorer off the bench with an average of 7.4 ppg. On the season, Anderson is averaging 53.1 percent (26-of-49) shooting from the field, 2.0 rpg and 2.4 apg.
The No. 4 Longhorns return to action on Sunday, Dec. 28, at the Surf 'n Slam Classic in San Diego, Calif., where they will face in-state foe UTEP in the first round.
