AUSTIN, Texas -- It's another banner year of recruiting for Texas head coach Jody Conradt and her staff, as the national rankings of the 2006-07 recruiting classes were recently released. Next fall's incoming quartet of Lone Star State standouts - 6-1 forward Niqky Hughes (Waxahachie), 5-11 forward Gaby Mattox (Kountze), 6-3 forward Kristin Nash (Plano/Plano West HS) and 6-0 guard Brittainey Raven (Ft. Worth/North Crowley HS) - has been ranked among the national top 10 by every national scouting and college showcase organization, including a No. 6 ranking by All-Star Girls Report.
The All-Star Girls Report recruiting service, which last year ranked the Longhorns' current class of seven freshmen the No. 1 recruiting class in America, ranks the class of 2006-07 as the nation's sixth-best recruiting class.
The Blue Star basketball scouting organization ranks the incoming Longhorns class as the nation's eighth-best, while Full Court Press-The Women's Basketball Journal has UT's class ranked tenth.
The No. 19 Texas women's basketball team (4-3) last played on December 8, posting a 77-56 victory over Stephen F. Austin in Austin. The Longhorns are on a 10-day layoff due to fall semester final examinations, and will resume their four-game homestand - the longest of the season - on Sunday, Dec. 18 when they host North Texas in a2 p.m. game at the Frank Erwin Center. The North Texas Mean Green will enter with a 7-1 mark. It also is "Autograph Day", and all the Longhorn players will sign autographs for the fans after the game.
