Hi again Longhorn fans,
We just got home from our first road trip of the season, and we brought back two wins from Boca Raton, Fla. It was great to spend the Thanksgiving weekend in the Sunshine State with my teammates. We are a very close-knit team and this was a great time of the year to spend with those that we are closest to.
The trip started with a Thanksgiving dinner at the Cooley Pavilion. Our meal had all of the traditional elements of a holiday dinner, from the turkey and stuffing to candied yams, and even pumpkin and pecan pies at the end.
Following the team meal, we each shared the things that we are most thankful for this year. Some people really made me laugh, and others made me sentimental. Words don’t express how close we have become, but we did our best to share our feelings and gratitude.
We left for Florida after our dinner and had our first of many study hall sessions on the plane. Finals are right around the corner, and we’re all hitting the books pretty hard these days.
On Friday, we had our practice session, and then we took some time out to play on the beach and do a little early Christmas shopping. And somewhere in there, we fit in another study hall, too.
This weekend presented a new test for us, since we haven’t been on the road at all this year. Georgia Tech played a style that we hadn’t seen yet this year, but we started off a little slow and had to come from behind. We started off against FAU the same way, but we learned a lot in both games and will try to have our problems corrected by the time we play Ole Miss on Sunday.
The next few weeks are a challenge – Ole Miss on the road, and Tennessee and Arizona State at home. Tennessee and Arizona State are both Top 25 teams, and it will be nice to have our fans in the stands cheering us on.
Practice will be more of the same, like I described last time. We will continue to work on rebounding, and I definitely expect a lot of rebounding drills in practice this week. We will also be working on our defense, controlling the ball better and making those free throws.
Other than all of this, I’m working on a few surprises for the holidays. I can’t say what those surprises are right now, but I promise to talk about those in an upcoming blog. Until then, please stay tuned!
