Fussell earns Phillips 66 Big 12 Conference Freshman of the Week accolade

Nov. 22, 2010

IRVING, Texas -- University of Texas freshman guard Chassidy Fussell has been named the Phillips 66 Big 12 Conference Freshman of the Week for games contested Nov. 15-21, the conference announced Monday. The award is chosen by a panel of media covering Big 12 women’s basketball. It is the first career honor for Fussell.

Fussell averaged 20.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in Texas’ wins over Northwestern State (Nov. 16) and Boston University (Nov. 21). She recorded a career-high 25 points with seven rebounds, two assists, two blocks and two steals against Northwestern State. Fussell connected on 7-of-10 field goals, including 2-of-4 from the three-point line.

Additionally, Fussell became the first true freshman to begin her Longhorn career with three consecutive double-digit scoring efforts since Heather Schreiber in 2001, after putting up 20 points against Boston. She hit 6-of-11 from the field and 7-of-10 from the free throw line. Fussell also pulled down eight rebounds.

The No. 16 Longhorns return to action on Wednesday, Nov. 24, when they host the Idaho State Bengals at 4 p.m. Central.
