No. 12 Women's Basketball hosts Sam Houston at 7 p.m. tonight
AUSTIN, Texas -- The No. 12 Longhorns will look for their first win when they host Sam Houston State tonight - Monday, Nov. 21 - in a 7 p.m. game at the Frank Erwin Center. Following tonight's game, Texas plays its next three games on the road. This is the season opener for Sam Houston. Featuring a lineup of seven freshmen on the 15-player roster, and battling injuries, the Longhorns stand 0-1 after a 76-68 setback to New Mexico on Friday evening. In the season opener against New Mexico, the Longhorns received solid performances from All-America junior forward Tiffany Jackson and a pair of freshmen guards. Hampered by an ankle injury which forced her to miss nearly a week of practice last week, Jackson responded with a team-high tying 17 points and team-high six rebounds. Rookie shooting guard Erika Arriaran tied Jackson for the points lead with 17 while logging a team-high 32 minutes, and freshman point guard Carla Cortijo made her UT debut by scoring 15 points. Tonight's game has several ticket and in-game promotions. In order to assist in the University-based Orange Santa program, which provides help for members of the university community who have special needs in the holiday season, fans who bring a new, unwrapped toy to the game will receive a FREE general admission ticket. Additionally, for fans who bring a non-perishable food donation at tonight's game to assist with the "Hoops for Hunger" program, they also receive a FREE admission ticket. In December 2004, Orange Santa served 320 families, including 1,115 children. The Orange Santa Holiday Store provides an opportunity for participating families to "shop" for gifts and toys for children in their immediate family. The store is stocked with items contributed through a campus-wide donation drive as well as items collected at special events, such as tonight's game. For fans in Nike apparel this evening, they will receive a $2 discount off one general admission ticket. UT students also can register to win an MP3 player and Longhorn watches (register at the tables in the concourse level, sections 29 and 44). Texas women's basketball has numerous ticket plans in place for the 2005-06 season (full season ticket packages, a five-game mini-season ticket package, group ticket sales and single game ticket purchases).
