Women's Basketball opens against New Mexico

AUSTIN, Texas -- The No. 12 ranked Texas women's basketball team will officially tip off the 2005-06 campaign on Friday, Nov. 18 when the Longhorns host New Mexico in UT's season opener at 7 p.m. at the Frank Erwin Center on the UT campus.

Texas, featuring a lineup of two returning starters plus a freshman class of seven rated as the No. 1 recruiting class in the nation (by All-Star Girls Report), went 22-9 last year and advanced to the NCAA Championship second round. New Mexico is coming off a 26-5 season where the Lobos also advanced to the NCAA second round.

The Longhorns have not played since their last exhibition game on November 10th, while the Lobos already stand 2-1 on the young season,having played in the Preseason WNIT where they advanced to the semifinals before losing to No. 25 Oklahoma (73-63).

Friday night's game in Austin is "Breast Cancer Awareness Night" at the Erwin Center, as sponsored by UT Athletics. At the game, there will be information booths about breast cancer, acknowledgment of breast cancer survivors among the crowd, and "Stories of Hope", a video presentation involving stories from survivors and messages from the Longhorn players and supporters.

In addition, there are numerous ticket options and game promotions in place for the Longhorns-Lobos game.

The "Fun for Four" promotion allows fans to purchase four general admission tickets for only $16, while all youth - 14 and under - can receive one general admission ticket for $2 through the "Take a Kid to the Game" promotion. Additionally, there is a special five-game "mini-pack" (mini season ticket package) available for purchase, beginning with the New Mexico game. The women's mini-pack is priced at $70, and the five games in the package are: the season opener against New Mexico (Fri., Nov. 18); Duke (Sun., Dec. 4); Connecticut (Sun., Feb. 12); Texas Tech (Sun., Feb. 26, which also is "Texas Senior Day"); and the regular season finale at the Erwin Center against Baylor (Wed., Mar. 1).
