Women's Basketball signs four hoops standouts to National Letters of Intent
Nov. 13, 2009
AUSTIN, Texas -- Four high school hoops standouts have signed National Letters of Intent to play basketball next season at The University of Texas, head coach Gail Goestenkors announced Friday. Chelsea Bass (Houston, Texas), Chassidy Fussell (Union City, Tenn.), Anne Marie Hartung (Bowling Green, Mo.) and Tiffany Moore (Frisco, Texas) will join the Longhorns for the 2010-11 season. "Simply stated, this class is the epitome of well-rounded student-athletes," Goestenkors said. "In addition to being very talented and passionate basketball players, they also take their academics seriously and are active in their communities. Texas fans are going to be as excited about this signing class as I am. This is a class that loves to run and press, and it's going to be a fun four years to watch them develop and take their games and our program to the next level." Bass (5-8), a guard from St. Agnes Academy (Houston, Texas), is ranked as the No. 12 prospect in the nation by RivalsHigh.com Girls Hoops. She led St. Agnes to three-straight Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) District 3-5A Championships in 2007, '08 and '09, and to the state finals in the same years. Bass earned TAPPS All-Tournament Team 6A Girls Basketball honors in 2007 and 2008. During her junior campaign, Bass averaged 18.6 ppg on 47.8 percent (198-414) shooting, and 4.8 rpg. Bass' club team is the Nike Cy-Fair Shock. "Chelsea already has an incredible understanding of the game, and she is a player that makes everyone around her better. She is one of those players who will take charge, make the extra pass and hit the open three," Goestenkors said. "Chelsea has the potential to be one of the greatest leaders I have ever coached." Fussell (5-10), a guard from Obion County HS (Union City, Tenn.), averaged 30.3 ppg and 11.1 rpg during her junior year (2008-09) en route to leading the Lady Rebels to a 23-7 record. Following the season, Fussell was tabbed as the District 13AA Player of the Year and earned a spot on the Tennessee Sports Writers All-State Team. Her club team, Memphis Elite, won the 2009 AAU 16U Championship and Fussell received MVP honors for her performance. "Chassidy is an excellent athlete," Goestenkors added. "She always pushes the tempo, and she is a very scrappy player that is constantly diving for loose balls and taking charges. She can beat you in a variety of ways and has a great knack for scoring. I don't think there is another player in the country that works as hard as she does." Hartung (6-3), a power forward from Bowling Green HS (Bowling Green, Mo.), ranks among the ESPN HoopGurlz 100, and has also been tabbed an Adidas Phenom twice (2007, 2010). The 2009 Missouri Basketball Coaches Association Class 3A All-State Team honoree led Bowling Green HS to the state quarterfinals last year after winning the District 6 and Sectional Championships. Hartung played for Showtime Hoops in California during the 2008 club season before switching to the Nike Cy-Fair Shock club team in 2009. "Anne Marie is a small-town farm girl that has big dreams and the work ethic to make them come true," Goestenkors said. "She is a relentless rebounder, an excellent high post passer and will be a presence around the basket. Anne Marie is a work horse, and she only knows one way to play - all out, all the time." Moore (5-10), a guard from Frisco HS (Frisco, Texas), is currently ranked No. 5 by RivalsHigh.com Girls Hoops and No. 22 in the ESPN HoopGurlz 100. She was named the UIL District 9-4A MVP during her junior season, after scoring 21 and 31 points in a pair of playoff wins to help Frisco HS advance to the Class 4A Regional II Quarterfinals. Moore's club team is the DFW T-Jack Elite. "Tiffany is extremely versatile. She is strong and athletic, and is another great all-around player that can play many positions on the court," Goestenkors said. "She is one of the best defensive players coming out of high school, and she almost averaged a triple-double during her junior season. She does a little bit of everything, whether it is scoring, assists or rebounds." 2010-11 Texas Basketball Recruiting Class Name Yr Pos Ht Hometown (Previous School) Chelsea Bass Fr.
