AUSTIN, Texas -- The University of Texas Women’s Basketball team is ranked No. 19 in this week’s Associated Press poll released Monday.
The Longhorns jumped into the rankings following two wins at last weekend’s WBI Tip Off Classic in Daytona Beach, Fla. UT upset then No. 14/13 St. John's, 70-60, before downing Hofstra, 72-52. Sophomore forward Nneka Enemkpali earned MVP honors and junior guard Chassidy Fussell was named to the all-tourney team.
UT will face five more opponents in the regular season who are currently ranked in the AP poll, four of which are Big 12 Conference foes: No. 1 Baylor (Feb. 9 in Austin, Feb. 23 in Waco), No. 11 Oklahoma (Jan. 5 in Austin, Jan. 19 in Norman), No. 14 West Virginia (Jan. 9 in Morgantown, March 5 in Austin), No. 22 Oklahoma State (Jan. 13 in Austin, March 2 in Stillwater) and No. 24 Tennessee (Dec. 16 in Austin).
Texas opens its home slate on Tuesday, Nov. 20 against Jackson State. Tip is set for 7 p.m. Central at the Frank Erwin Center.
