No. 22 Women's Basketball opens Goestenkors' coaching era Sunday
AUSTIN, Texas -- The new look on the Longhorns women's basketball sidelines with first-year head coach Gail Goestenkors and her staff officially will be unveiled Sunday, Nov. 11 when the No. 22 ranked Texas squads plays its season opener at the Frank Erwin Center.
The Longhorns, No. 22 in the AP preseason poll (and No. 24 in the USA Today/ESPN preseason rankings), host Missouri State at 2 p.m. at the Frank Erwin Center. Following the game, a FREE autograph session will take place with the Longhorn players. Per UT Athletics policy, there is a limit of two autographed items per fan.
Prior to taking over the UT coaching reigns from retired Hall of Famer Jody Conradt, Goestenkors won 80 percent of her games as Duke University head coach, building that Blue Devil program into one of the nation's finest programs over the last 15 years. Goestenkors is ranked No. 3 nationally among all active Division I women's basketball coaches in winning percentage, and steps onto the UT sidelines with a 396-99 overall coaching mark.
Both Texas and Missouri State are under new leadership this year, as the Lady Bears welcome head coach Myla Milleson to the sidelines for her first year coaching the Springfield, Missouri team. (Missouri State was formerly known as Southwest Missouri State).
