Jackson named AP Preseason Honorable Mention All-America Team

AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas junior forward Tiffany Jackson was named to the 2005-06 Associated Press Preseason All-America Team as an Honorable Mention pick, as voted Tuesday by a national panel of media.

Jackson is a preseason candidate for both the Naismith Award and the State Farm/Wade Trophy National Player of the Year honors. She has been a consensus preseason All-America pick by all the basketball publications, and is a Big 12 Preseason First Team selection after earning First Team honors at the conclusion of last year.

There was only one unanimous selection to this year's five-member AP First Team – LSU 6-1 senior guard Seimone Augustus Augustus. Augustus she was an overwhelming choice as the AP national player of the year last season. The other four First Team selections were 6-4 junior center Jessica Davenport (Ohio State), 6-0 senior guard/forward Monique Currie (Duke), Baylor's 6-1 senior forward Sophia Young, and Rutgers 5-9 senior guard Cappie Pondexter.

Last year, Jackson was an AP Third Team All-American and was named to the 10-member U.S. Basketball Writers Association (U.S.B.W.A.) All-America First Team after being named to the AP Honorable Mention preseason squad. The All-American performer was UT's leading scorer (18.3 ppg), rebounder (8.7 rpg), shot blocker (1.9) and steals leader (3.4 spg) a year ago as she led the Longhorns to a 22-9 mark.

The Longhorns will return to the court on Thursday, Nov. 10 for their final of two exhibition games.
