Quintet inducted into UT Women's Athletics Hall of Honor
Nov. 7, 2008 AUSTIN, Texas -- Four distinguished former University of Texas student-athletes and a former staff member were inducted into the UT Women's Athletics Hall of Honor during a luncheon on Friday in the Lone Star Room at the Frank Erwin Center. The 2008 class of inductees included Angie Bradburn Spangler (track and field, 1987-90), Hattie Browning (basketball, 1978-80), Kim Linehan (swimming, 1980-83), Suziann Reid (track and field, 1996-99) and Becky Bludau Marshall (athletic trainer, 1976-85). "This is the highest honor that our athletics department can bestow upon an individual," UT Women's Athletics Director Chris Plonsky said. "It is so important to pay tribute to those who helped build the foundation for women's athletics here at Texas. This is a day to honor the past and to give thanks to those who came before. All five of these wonderful individuals had a huge impact here at The University of Texas, both on and off the athletic field." The event, which drew a crowd of several hundred people, began with the appearance of two current UT student-athletes. Texas Volleyball sophomore Juliann Faucette performed the National Anthem, and UT Basketball senior Earnesia Williams followed with the invocation. While all five inductees shared their own special memories of their time at UT during their individual acceptance speeches, one message was common. The University of Texas is a special place that had a great impact in its own way on each member of the Class of 2008.
