Carey added to 2007 USA Basketball National Team College Tour roster
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Former University of Texas standout point guard Jamie Carey, a silver medalist on the 2003 USA Basketball Pan American Games Team, has been added to the roster for the 2007 USA Basketball Women's National Team College Tour, USA Basketball announced Tuesday. Carey will join the USA squad in Waco, Texas, in time for the squad's contest exhibition tonight (Nov. 6) against Baylor University at 7 p.m. CT. This past September, Carey completed her third season with the WNBA's highly-successful Connecticut Sun franchise and led the WNBA in 3-point field goal shooting percentage (.451). At Texas from 2002-05, Carey was a National Player of the Year finalist in 2002-03 and 2003-04 and a three-year All-Big 12 performer who led the 29-6 Longhorns to the 2003 Women's Final Four in Atlanta. As a junior and senior, she also earned National Academic All-America honors and was team co-MVP as a junior and MVP as a senior. "I'm pleased that Jamie will be able to join the team," said USA and Seattle Storm head coach Anne Donovan. "She will be able to help fill the void that we've had with the guards because of Loree Moore's injury. Jamie is an excellent shooter as she has demonstrated with the Sun and she will give us a nice spark off the bench." In addition to Carey, the 10-player USA National Team roster for the 2007 College Tour includes three-time Olympic gold medalist Lisa Leslie (Los Angeles Sparks); 2004 Olympic gold medalists Sue Bird (Seattle Storm), Swin Cash (Detroit Shock) and Diana Taurasi (Phoenix Mercury); as well as Seimone Augustus (Minnesota Lynx), Kara Braxton (Detroit Shock), Katie Feenstra (Detroit Shock), Kara Lawson (Sacramento Monarchs) and Taj McWilliams-Franklin (Los Angeles Sparks). The USA is currently 3-0 in its College Tour. Opening the eight-game schedule with a 90-73 victory over the University of Maryland on Oct. 31, the U.S. squad recorded a 90-74 win over the University of Connecticut on Nov. 1, and defeated the University of Tennessee 83-72 on Nov. 4. Following the game against Baylor, the USA continues its 2007 College Tour on Nov. 8 against Arizona State University in Tempe at 6:30 p.m. (all times local), then returns to the Lone Star State for a Nov. 11 match-up against Texas A&M in College Station at 6:00 p.m. Moving west to California for its final two games, Team USA faces USC in Los Angeles (Nov. 13, 7:00 p.m.), and the USA concludes its tour at Stanford University (Nov. 15, 7:00 p.m.).
