Raven named Preseason All-Big 12 Honorable Mention

IRVING, Texas -- University of Texas junior guard Brittainey Raven was named Preseason All-Big 12 Honorable Mention, the conference office announced Wednesday. Raven is one of four returning starters to the 2008-09 Texas women's basketball team, and was the Longhorns' top scorer in conference play last season with an average of 14.6 points per game (11th in the league).

The 6-0 Raven ranked 10th in Big 12 field goal percentage, hitting 41.2 percent of her shots, 13th in assists (2.50 apg) and 11th in free throw percentage (.702, 73-104). Raven notched double-figure scoring in 15 of the 16 league contests. The Fort Worth, Texas, product earned All-Big 12 Conference Second Team honors for her efforts during the 2007-08 season.

Oklahoma senior Courtney Paris was tabbed the Preseason Player of the year. Texas A&M junior guard/forward was chosen Newcomer of the Year, while Oklahoma guard Whitney Hand and Texas A&M guard Tyra White were tabbed Preseason Co-Freshmen of the Year. Players honored in preseason voting were selected by the league's head coaches. The coaches were not permitted to vote for their own student-athletes.
