Oct. 12, 2011
IRVING, Texas - The University of Texas Women's Basketball team is picked to finish third in the Big 12 Conference in a preseason vote of the league coaches, the conference office announced Wednesday. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own teams. Baylor received all of the possible nine first-place votes after capturing both the Big 12 regular season and postseason titles a year ago. Texas A&M, lastseason's national champion, was picked second and nabbed the other first-place vote. Just twopoints separated the next two spots as Texas was chosen third, followed by Oklahoma in fourth. Iowa State rounded out the top five. The remaining selections were Texas Tech in sixth, Kansas seventh, Oklahoma State eighth, Kansas State ninth and Missouri 10th. Head coaches and select student-athletes will convene in Kansas City on Oct. 19 for the annual Big 12 Women's Basketball Media Day. Kansas City's Municipal Auditorium will serve as the site of the 2012 Phillips 66 Big 12 Women's Basketball Championship March 7-10. Texas will tip off the 2011-12 regular season on Friday, Nov. 11 against Stanford at 7p.m. Central in the Frank Erwin Center.
