IRVING, Texas --- The University of Texas women's basketball team is picked to finish second in the Big 12 Conference in a preseason vote of the league coaches, the conference office announced Wednesday. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own teams.
Oklahoma earned the top spot in the poll, receiving seven first-place votes and 124 total points in polling for the 2008-09 season. Texas came in second with one first-place vote and 95 points. Iowa State (two first-place votes) and Baylor (one first-place vote) finished third and fourth, respectively, in the preseason poll.
Texas A&M was tabbed fifth, followed by Oklahoma State (one first-place vote), Kansas State, Nebraska, Kansas, Texas Tech, Colorado and Missouri.
The Big 12 Conference will hold its preseason media day for women's basketball on Wednesday, Oct. 22 in Oklahoma City, site of the 2009 Phillips 66 Big 12 Basketball Championships.
