Raven named to Preseason All-Big 12 Women's Basketball Team

Oct. 7, 2009

IRVING, Texas -- University of Texas senior guard Brittainey Raven has been named to the five-person Preseason All-Big 12 Women’s Basketball Team, the conference announced Wednesday.

Kansas senior Danielle McCray was tabbed the Preseason Player of the Year.  Texas A&M junior forward Danielle Adams was selected Newcomer of the Year, and Baylor center Brittney Griner earned Preseason Freshman of the Year accolades.  Players honored in preseason voting were selected by the league’s head coaches.  The coaches were not permitted to vote for their own student-athletes.

Raven led UT in scoring last season with 13.4 ppg while recording double-figures in 19 games, including a span of eight-straight contests. The three-year starter scored a career-high 31 points against Missouri (Feb. 24), becoming the first Longhorn to eclipse 30 points since 2006.  The 2008-09 All-Big 12 Second Team honoree and 2006-07 Preseason Freshman of the Year became the 33rd player in Texas history to join the 1,000 Point Club after scoring a game-high 21 points at Texas Tech (Jan. 10).

Joining Raven on the Preseason All-Big 12 team were McCray, Kelsey Griffin (Nebraska), Danielle Robinson (Oklahoma) and Andrea Riley (Oklahoma State).
