Second Season at Texas
Shaeeta (Sha-EE-tah) Williams, former Duke University guard and long-time assistant with Gail Goestenkors, begins her seond year as special assistant to the Longhorns basketball program. Williams had served with Goestenkors at Duke as basketball administrative assistant for seven years prior to her UT appointment in the summer of 2007.
A former four-year basketball letterwinner at Duke from 1993-98 (under maiden name Shaeeta Brown), Williams as a member of Goestenkors' first Blue Devil recruiting class. During Williams' playing days, the Blue Devils began their string of NCAA Championship success, starting in 1995 with their first NCAA berth under the direction of Goestenkors.
In addition to assisting Goestenkors in day-to-day program responsibilities, Williams directs the UT basketball summer camps, coordinates basketball video work, and serves as the program's liaison for community relations efforts which are coordinated through UT student services and marketing areas.
While at Duke, Williams had multiple responsibilities in basketball marketing and promotions, community relations, academic support, video editing and recruiting and directing the summer basketball camps.
Williams is a native of Brusly, La., and received her bachelor of arts degree in mathematics from Duke in 1998.
As a four-year guard on the Duke Blue Devil basketball squad, Williams played in 80 career games. She was the recipient of the Blue Devil Club Student-Athlete of the Year honor, awarded to the rising senior who best exemplifies excellence, academic achievement, sportsmanship and leadership.
Upon graduation from Duke, Williams entered the collegiate coaching ranks as an assistant coach at DePaul University (1998-99) before returning to her alma mater, Brusly HS, to teach and coach girls basketball for two years. She then returned to Duke (2001-02) as assistant coach, and has worked alongside Goestenkors since then.
Williams and her husband, Barnell, reside in Manor, Texas with their 18-month-old son, Seth.
