Sept. 17, 2008

AUSTIN, Texas -- Former University of Texas teammates Jamie Carey (Connecticut Sun) and Tiffany Jackson (New York Liberty) will face off against each other in the opening round of the WNBA's Eastern Conference playoffs. The best-of-three series begins on Thursday, Sept. 18, when New York hosts Connecticut. Tip is set for 6 p.m. (Central) at Madison Square Garden, and the game will be televised nationally on NBA-TV.

Carey, now in her fourth year with the Sun, played in 33 games (three starts) during the regular season and averaged 4.2 points and 1.4 assists in 15.1 minutes per contest. She recorded a career-high 18 points (6-of-10 threes) in 25 minutes off the bench during a 77-71 home loss to Jackson and the Liberty on July 15.

Jackson, in her second season in the league, has not seen game action since suffering a stress fracture in her leg in late July. Prior to her injury, she played in 25 games and ranked second on the team in rebounding (5.7 rpg) and fourth in scoring (8.3 ppg).

Connecticut enters the playoffs as the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference, compiling a 21-13 mark in the regular season. New York is the No. 3 seed in the conference, tallying a 19-15 record.

The winner of the Connecticut-New York series advances to play the winner of the Detroit-Indiana series in the Eastern Conference finals. For more information on the WNBA playoffs, please visit www.wnba.com.
