Taylor joins Women's Basketball squad
Aug. 7, 2012
AUSTIN, Texas -- Former UT Softball standout Nadia Taylor will join the Texas Women’s Basketball team for the upcoming 2012-13 season, head coach Karen Aston announced on Tuesday. Taylor (Humble, Texas) completed her four-year softball career at Texas in May 2012 after playing in 234 career games with the Longhorns, including 231 starts. Per NCAA guidelines, student-athletes have five years of eligibility, as long as one year is spent in a different sport. “Nadia has already made a terrific impression on the team,” Aston said. “As a fifth-year student-athlete, she has been able to help the young players adapt to Texas and understand what it means to be a part of the Texas legacy. In our situation, we’re looking for leadership and Nadia will immediately add that to the team.” A four-time All-Big 12 selection, Taylor earned her second first-team recognition last season while batting .355 with 11 home runs and added a UT single-season record of 16 doubles. Taylor tied an NCAA record with three doubles in a game on April 1, 2012, against New Mexico. On the Texas Softball career lists, Taylor ranks third in RBI (132) and doubles (41), fourth in on-base percentage (.427) and in hits (219). She is tied for fifth in walks (87), ranked sixth in batting average (.337) and slugging percentage (.554) and tied for sixth in home runs (32). “Nadia loves competition and wants to contribute in any manner she can. Anytime you can welcome someone to your team with an inherent sense of Texas pride, it’s a plus,” added Aston. Prior to Texas, Taylor earned three varsity letters in basketball during her high school career at Atascocita (two years) and Humble (two years) High Schools. She led her squad in both scoring and rebounding her junior and senior seasons.
