Women's Basketball announces 2012 Big 12 Conference schedule

IRVING, Texas -- The Big 12 Conference released its 2012 Women's Basketball composite schedule on Tuesday, and Texas will begin and end its league slate at home in Austin against Kansas (Jan. 4) and Texas A&M (March 4), respectively.
The upcoming conference schedule features a new double round robin format consisting of 18 games with Big 12 members playing each other twice. The team(s) that finishes with the best winning percentage in league games will be crowned the Big 12 regular season champion.
Following its league opener, the Horns are slated to visit Oklahoma State (Jan. 7) and Texas A&M (Jan. 11). UT returns home to host Baylor (Jan. 14) and Iowa State (Jan. 18) before taking on Red River rival Oklahoma (Jan. 21) in Norman. Texas closes the first half of conference play against Missouri (Jan. 25), at Texas Tech (Jan. 28) and against Kansas State (Feb. 1).
The second half of Big 12 action begins with back-to-back road contests at Iowa State (Feb. 4) and Kansas (Feb. 8). The Longhorns return home to the Frank Erwin Center for contests against Oklahoma State (Feb. 11) and Texas Tech (Feb. 15) before facing another pair of road opponents in Kansas State (Feb. 18) and Baylor (Feb. 21). Texas closes the month of February hosting Oklahoma (Feb. 25) and visiting Missouri (Feb. 28) before welcoming Texas A&M (March 4) to conclude the regular season.
The format has also been adjusted for the 2012 Phillips 66 Big 12 Women's Basketball Championship to be held in Kansas City's Municipal Auditorium. Two first round matchups will be played on Wednesday, March 7, followed by quarterfinals on Thursday, March 8. Semifinals are scheduled for Friday, March 9, with the final contested on Saturday, March 10. The winner earns the Big 12's automatic big to the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship.
