Women's Basketball announces 2012-13 non-conference schedule

2012-13 Women's Basketball schedule AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas Women's Basketball will play host to perennial power Tennessee, take on UCLA in Houston and appear in two national tournaments, the program announced Tuesday in releasing its 2012-13 non-conference schedule. The Longhorns' marquee non-conference matchup against the Lady Vols will take place on Dec. 16 at the Frank Erwin Center. Tennessee reached the Elite Eight in the 2012 NCAA Tournament before falling to eventual champion Baylor. After a home exhibition game against Incarnate Word on Oct. 30, the Longhorns will officially open their season at the WBI Tip Off Classic in Daytona Beach, Fla., against St. John's (Nov. 9) and Hofstra (Nov. 10). UT returns to the Frank Erwin Center for three consecutive home contests against Jackson State (Nov. 20), Central Connecticut (Nov. 24) and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (Nov. 30) before taking on UCLA in neutral Houston on Dec. 8. Texas will host three final games at the Erwin Center beginning with a tilt against Louisiana-Monroe out of the Sun Belt Conference on Dec. 11. After the matchup against Tennessee, the Longhorns will close out their home non-conference schedule against Cornell (Dec. 20). UT will then appear at the Maggie Dixon Surf 'n Slam Classic in San Diego, Calif., which will take place Dec. 28-30. The Horns will take on Iowa (Dec. 28) and either Central Michigan or host San Diego (Dec. 30) to close out 2012 before looking ahead to the conference slate.
