Incoming Women's Basketball class ranked 10th best nationally

AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas head coach Jody Conradt's incoming recruiting class of four standout scholastic players has been ranked as the 10th best recruiting class nationally, according to the All Star Girls Report (ASGR) recruiting service.

This marks the fourth time in the last five years that a UT women's basketball recruiting class has been ranked in the top 10 nationally.

Conradt's incoming quartet of standout recruits all hail from the Lone Star State and all claimed All-State honors – 6-1 forward Niqky Hughes (Waxahachie), 5-11 forward Gaby Mattox (Kountze), 6-3 forward Kristin Nash (Plano/Plano West HS) and 6-0 guard Brittainey Raven (Ft. Worth/North Crowley HS).

The four include one of the nation's top seniors, Raven, who is ranked among the top five players nationally by every recruiting service. Raven, who hails from Fort Worth, Texas and North Crowley High School, was a consensus All-American this year as she averaged 27.2 points, 8.2 rebound and 5.1 assists per game. She is rated as the No. 3 prospect coming out of high school by the ASGR.

Hughes helped lead 32-6 Waxachachie to the Texas Class 4A state title this past March as she was named the tourney's MVP after averaging 20 points and 14.5 rebounds in the tourney. Nash (ranked 88th by AGSR overall) averaged 17.7 points and 10.3 rebounds and helped 5A power Plano West (35-6) win its first state basketball title this year. Hughes is ranked No. 21 by ASGR.

Mattox led her Kountze squad to three State championship (final four) showings in four years, including a semifinal appearance in 2006. Mattox was named to the 2006 UIL State All-Tournament Team as well.

Following her high school career, Raven played in both the McDonald's All-America Game and the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA)/Nike All-America Game this past April. Currently, she is preparing for tryouts for the 2006 USA Basketball Under-18 Team. Those USA Basketball Trials are set for June 16-19 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center (USOTC) in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
