Heather Schreiber honored at State House of Representatives

AUSTIN, Texas -- On May 13, University of Texas senior and basketball standout Heather Schreiber (Windthorst, Texas/Windthorst HS) was honored at the State Capitol with a House of Representatives resolution, put forward by State Rep. David Farabee.

Accompanied by her parents, Gerald and Debbie Schreiber, and by Texas women's basketball head coach Jody Conradt, Schreiber received the resolution on the House floor from Rep. Farabee and Texas Speaker of the House Tom Craddick.

Representative Farabee is serving his third term in the House of Representatives where he serves Wichita and Archer Counties in North Texas. Windthorst is in Archer County.

Schreiber, an education major and All-Big 12 Conference Academic Team performer who will graduate in December of 2005, has completed her four years of UT basketball eligibility. She ended her career as a three-time All-Big 12 standout and was a candidate for State Farm/Wade Trophy and Wooden Award National Player of the Year honors the last two seasons. Schreiber is drafted by the WNBA Los Angeles Sparks in April as a third-round pick, but was waived during training camp.

Schreiber concluded her career with 1,705 points and 856 rebounds, and is tied for eighth in all-time Longhorn scoring and 10th in all-time rebounding. Additionally in the Texas career record books, Schreiber is: 2nd, free throw percentage (.816, 318-390); 5th, 3-point field goal pct. (.393, 189-481); 3rd, 3-point field goals made (189); 7th, games played (133); 7th, free throws made (331);

RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Heather Schreiber has completed a stellar athletic career at The University of Texas at Austin, and her achievements as a member of the Longhorns women's basketball team have earned her a place among the school's most esteemed athletes; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Schreiber contributed 10.2 points and 5.6 rebounds per game for the Longhorns during her senior season, ranking third and second, respectively, among her teammates; she also led the 'Horns in free-throw percentage and was named to the All-Big 12 Second Team; and

WHEREAS, A National Player of the Year candidate during her junior and senior seasons, this crafty left-hander excelled in the low post throughout her career, relying on her deft shooting touch, superior athleticism, and unrelenting drive and determination to succeed on the hardwood; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Schreiber leaves UT ranked eigth all-time in scoring, with 1,708 points, second in career three-point percentage, and third in three-pointers made and in free-throw percentage; she is a recipient of the UT Women's Athletics Jody Conradt Endowed Presidential Scholarship and the Mary Camille "Kamie" Ethridge Endowed Presidential Scholarship; and

WHEREAS, A former standout player at small-school powerhouse Windthorst High School, Ms. Schreiber was the number-one rated girls' basketball player in Texas and a top-35 national recruit; her collegiate career has been filled with many high points, as well as numerous awards and accolades, and her contributions to the success of the UT women's basketball program will not soon be forgotten; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Heather Schreiber on her outstanding career as a student-athlete at The University of Texas at Austin and extend best wishes to her for happiness and fulfillment in all her future endeavors; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Schreiber as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
