Women's Basketball signs McKoy to National Letter of Intent

May 11, 2010

AUSTIN, Texas -- Shanice McKoy (Toronto, Ontario, Canada) has signed a National Letter of Intent to play basketball next season at The University of Texas, head coach Gail Goestenkors announced Tuesday. McKoy will join the Longhorns for the 2010-11 season.

"We're excited to sign Shanice," Goestenkors said. "She is an exceptional defensive player, and loves to pick the ball up full court. She takes great pride in her defense."

The 5-5 point guard averaged 23.4 ppg, 10.2 apg, 8.0 rpg and 4.0 spg for Pope John Paul II HS as a senior. McKoy was honored as the 2010 MissHoopTownGTA.com top player, an annual award recognizing the top player in the Greater Toronto Area. She led the Panthers to a 34-1 record last season, with their only loss coming in the Toronto District Colleges Athletics Association (TDCAA) provincial quarterfinals. The Panthers established a 104-6 record during McKoy's tenure and claimed four 4A TDCAA district championships.

McKoy is ranked as the top point guard in Canada by 'Bring Your A Game Recruiting Service' and was named to the 2010 Toronto Star First Team.

"Shanice will be a spark plug for us. She is a hard worker and is willing to do whatever it takes to assist Texas in its' pursuit of winning championships," Goestenkors added.
