Women's Basketball takes on UConn in NCAA Second Round game tonight
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- March Madness continues Tuesday, March 25 for UT head coach Gail Goestenkors and the Longhorns women's basketball team when Texas goes up against Connecticut (33-1), the top No. 1 seed in the NCAA Championship, at the Arena at Harbor Yard. Texas is riding a 6-1 mark over the last seven contests, and brings a 22-12 record into the second-round contest. The game will tip at approximately 8:15 p.m. Central, with the winner advancing to the NCAA Sweet 16 in Greensboro, N.C., next weekend. The Longhorns are looking for their 12th NCAA final 16 appearance and first since 2004. Texas and UConn are meeting for the fourth time in history and for the second time in NCAA Championship competition, following the 2003 NCAA Final Four semifinal contest in the Georgia Dome (Atlanta) where Connecticut emerged with a hard-fought 71-69 decision. Tuesday's second-round NCAA contest between the Longhorns and Huskies will be carried live on ESPN2 and ESPNU TV, and will be broadcast via radio on KVET Radio (1300 AM) in the Central Texas area. Texas is paced by sophomore guard Brittainey Raven, the squad's top scorer with 15.5 points per game, and junior post Ashley Lindsey who averages 11.1 points and a team-best 6.9 rebounds and 2.7 blocks per game. Raven pumped in 19 points in UT's 72-55 victory over Minnesota in the first round Sunday evening in Bridgeport.
