Kathleen Nash named 2011 Robin Roberts/WBCA Broadcasting Scholarship recipient

March 22, 2011

ATLANTA -- Texas' Kathleen Nash will receive the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's (WBCA) Robin Roberts/WBCA Broadcasting Scholarship Award, the organization has announced.

The $4,500 Robin Roberts/WBCA Broadcasting Scholarship Award is presented annually to one female collegiate basketball player who intends to pursue graduate work and a career in sports communications/journalism.

"I always look forward to presenting the Robin Roberts/WBCA Broadcasting Scholarship because it honors an individual who will pursue a career in sports communication/journalism," said WBCA CEO Beth Bass. "Congratulations to Kathleen. We look forward to watching you excel in your field, and hope you will put some 'pressure' on this award's namesake."

Nash became the first player in Texas history to record over 1,000 points, 700 rebounds and 200 3-point field goals. Since further developing her outside shot as a freshman, she became one of the best shooters in UT history. Her career 3-point field goal percentage (.404) ranks fourth in Texas history while her free throw percentage (.848) stands as the second best all-time.

With quiet toughness and tenacity, 'Kat' played in every game of her UT career and was a full-time starter since late in her sophomore season.

In her Texas tenure, she recorded 1,517 points, ranking her 17th all-time along with 920 career rebounds, which ranks eighth. Her 237 made 3-point baskets are the second-most in school history.

A three-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team selection in 2009, 2010 and 2011, Nash will graduate in May with a degree in finance and a minor in accounting.

Nash will be formally recognized at the WBCA Awards Show at 6 p.m. Eastern on Monday, April 4, in the Indiana Convention Center's Sagamore Ballroom. This event is part of the WBCA National Convention and is held in conjunction with the NCAA® Women's Final Four in Indianapolis.
