COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- USA Basketball today announced the hiring of former Texas point guard Jamie Carey as the Women's National Team Assistant Director, effective March 24. Carey is a two-time national team member and medalist with USA Basketball. "USA Basketball is pleased to welcome Jamie as the newest member of our staff," said Jim Tooley, USA Basketball CEO/Executive Director. "She brings tremendous passion for the game to her new position, and we look forward to her contributions to our women's national team program." As the Women's National Team Assistant Director, Carey will assist with all facets of the women's competitive program, including coordinating the women's developmental, junior and national team programs during training camps and tournaments. "I am both honored and excited to have the opportunity to join the USA Basketball staff," Carey said. "My experiences as an athlete with USA Basketball were some of my most memorable, and I'm excited to now have the opportunity to help provide that for others through such a highly respected and competitive organization." Carey helped the 1998 USA World Youth Games Team to a bronze medal and the 2003 USA Pan American Games Team to a silver medal. She also played for the USA in the 2007 Women's National Team College Tour, and she served on the USA Basketball Developmental National Team Committee from 2009 to present. After retiring as a player in 2008, Carey worked at Triple Crown Sports as the basketball development director and fast pitch event director. She also recently completed her second season as the head girls basketball coach at Legacy High School (Broomfield, Colo.). On March 12, Legacy fell to East H.S. 50-46 in the Colorado Class 5A girls state championship to finish the 2009-10 season with a 26-2 record.
